Wayfinding Signage for Airfield

Specification: A sign posted on the wall across from the entrance that directs visitors to the information center. Requires text and a directional arrow.

Accessibility issues to address: visual impairment

Recommendations:

• Ensure proper lighting
• Do not clutter surrounding area
• Include a contrast ratio of text to background of at least 70%
• Use a matte finish
• Ensure all icons are at least 150mm in height
• Letterform width. The width of an ‘O’ must be 55 – 110% the height of an ‘I’ in the selected font (prefer sans serif)
• Based on a 4 foot viewer distance from the sign, a minimum font height of 40mm is required
• Sign must be hung at or above eye level
